Nature Specimens

Unique Gifts for Everyone!

Shark Jaws
Modern shark jaws, clean, bleached and "mounted" in the open position. Perfect white teeth, very sharp! Several rows of reserve teeth can be seen. In the live shark, these extra teeth lie ready to replace others lost in battle. Unusual addition to any nature table.
SHRK.05 9 to 11 inches across $18.95 each

Fossil Shark Teeth
Real fossil shark's teeth, black in colour, imported from Florida. Miocene age. Larger teeth are impressive, but may not be complete with "root". Smaller teeth have a nicer shape & are more likely to be complete. Nearly all will show some natural rounding caused by erosion. Why pay big bucks for these in Banff or at fancy stores? Our prices are much more reasonable.
SHRK.07   Medium (12 to 30 mm) $0.50 each
SHRK.08   Small (up to 12 mm)     $0.25 each
SHRK.09  Various sizes (mostly slightly larger, more well-formed specimens)choice grade $2.00 each

Owl Pellet Kit
Owls eat mice and other small mammals and birds, but their intestines are not large enough to handle the bones of these animals. So the owl regurgitates the fur, feathers and bones in an elongate pellet form, not unlike a cat’s hairball. Each pellet has been sterilized and contains a nearly complete set of bones from at least one small animal or bird. Students pick apart the pellet, remove the bones, identify them and attempt a reconstruction of the skeleton. An alternative to traditional "wet" dissection for those uncomfortable with it. Kit contains 2 sterilized foil-wrapped owl pellets, tweezers, 2 craft stick "probes", petri dish with cover, magnifying glass and instructions/information sheet. Note: As with other natural specimens that require "opening" (such as geodes), there is no guarantee that each owl pellet will contain the expected material. Nature does not provide guarantees, nor have we X-rayed the pellets to see if they contain complete skeletons. But we do know that these pellets came from raptor rehabilitation reserves, where the birds were fed a variety of prey.
OWL.01 $10.95/kit

Owl Pellets, individual
The same pellets included in the Owl Pellet Kit above, but available individually. Sterilized, foil wrapped. See "Note" above.
OWL.02 $3.95 each

Fossil Shark's Tooth Excavation Blocks
We know teachers want to have exciting, hands-on activities for their students, but don't always have the time or resources to prepare materials that capture students' interest in science. We hope these Fossil Blocks will provide a jump start for that interest. Now you can give your students the thrill of" digging" their own fossil, just like a real palaeontologist! These are blocks of "pseudo-rock" (sand/plaster mixture), with a real Miocene age fossil shark's tooth embedded in the centre of the block. Students "excavate" their fossil with a simple tool to remove the fossil completely, or once exposed, leave the shark's tooth half embedded for a more authentic look. Also available in sets of 12 for a quick ready-to-teach lesson for you or a substitute teacher.
FOSL.02 single block $1.50 each
FOSL.03
